FIOCCHI
FIOCCHI

The activities of Fiocchi begin in 1876 when founder Giulio Fiocchi starts to develop a business soon to become a reference point in the Italian market (and others) for ammunition of all types and calibres.

Some tactical decisions in the parallel weapons and press-studs segments (the latter due to use of scrap from brass processing) were gradually abandoned in order to favour a consistent strategy entirely focused on Fiocchi’s core business: production of ammunition and direct tending of the technical aspects of its machines, to constantly improve their production cycles, performance and solutions. This in tune with the continually evolving needs of diversified consumers, including hunters, sports people with a passion for target shooting and clay pigeon shooting, public bodies (for defence and security), and industries for some specialist applications.

Fiocchi has produced (and continues to produce) all types of ammunition for handheld firearms: from pinfire shot shells for guns with smoothbore barrels to pinfire metal cartridges for rifled barrels (both in the 1920s) and shot shells and cartridges of all types, both centerfire and rimfire.

SWAROVSKI
SWAROVSKI

In 1935, Wilhelm Swarovski, son of the original founder, was a mere 47 years of age. Already an avid hobby astronomer, Wilhelm’s passion “to be closer to the stars", as he himself described it, awakened his ambition to build his own, improved binocular. With access to the specialised glass production and finishing technologies already used to manufacture jewellery stones in his father’s factory, Wilhelm managed to develop a novel prism fabrication and grinding process that he applied in constructing his first 6x30 binocular. Wilhelm went on to found Swarovski Optik KG in Absam, Tyrol, in 1949 thus laying the foundation stone for a sports optics company with a global reputation. His company’s first serial product, the Habicht 7x42, is still an industry standard in the field of hunting optics and continues as ever to be produced by Swarovski Optik in the best tradition of its founder.

There used to be a number of shoe manufacturing towns in Germany, supporting hundreds of factories. Today, however, MEINDL is now one of the few footwear manufacturers actually producing boots in Germany. MEINDL employ over 200 people at our factory in Kirchanschöring, Bavaria making quality footwear. We continue a centuries old tradition of making handmade footwear and have been a shoemaker for more than 300 years in Kirchanschöring. The method of production has changed over the years and now people man the machines that carry out one of over 200 work stages that are required to make a high-quality trekking boot. Naturally, we also employ master shoemakers, who in the truest sense of the world »take a hand in things«. They also have the feel and experience required to work with our main material., leather and the product quality that we require. We have not lost the skills of hand making boots at the expense of the need for mass production. With product innovation, manufacturing flexibility and a good understanding of the market requirements we make quality footwear. This is how we wish to succeed in a globally competitive market.

FJALLRAVEN
FJALLRAVEN

The story behind Fjällräven began in 1950 when Åke Nordin, a 14-year-old boy from Örnsköldsvik in Northern Sweden, was about to go for a trek in the mountains. Åke, who spent more time outdoors than indoors, did not like the backpacks that were available at that time. They always ended up like small, uncomfortable, pear-shaped bags down around his rear. He decided to take matters into his own hands and built a wooden frame.
The frame improved the distribution of weight across the back. It was not only more comfortable to carry, but he could also carry more weight. This innovation gradually helped the outdoors become more accessible to a wider range of people. The need was incredible. This backpack frame, the support principles of which still apply today, was the start of Åkes company, Fjällräven, in 1960. The name Fjällräven means Arctic Fox in Swedish and the name is honoring the small predator which lives in the Swedish mountains in the harshest of climates.
